Albert Ferreira
Albert Ferreira is the Chief Heat Officer for the City of Cape Town. He was appointed in 2025 as Manager, Resilience and Climate Change and concurrently serves as South Africa’s first Chief Heat Officer.
Ferreira began his career in academia as an assistant lecturer at the University of Pretoria, where he also completed his Masters focussing on the application of urban resilience theory. He then practiced as a professional urban planner gaining experience in infrastructure investment, urban renewal and spatial planning. He became a researcher in the Parliament of South Africa, specializing in transport, small business, and land reform. Ferreira has also served as a policy analyst and lead for strategy implementation for the city. He played a key role in drafting various policies including the city’s Integrated Development Plan and was part of the COVID-19 Coordinating Committee, supporting strategic health responses.
Albert Ferreira holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health and co-founded the City’s first Integrated Urban Health Programme. He also holds a Master’s in Town and Regional Planning from the University of Pretoria.
