Surella Segú
Surella Segú was Arsht-Rock’s first Chief Heat Officer in Monterrey, Mexico from April 2022 to April 2023. Segú is a member of the National Housing Council and is also Strategic Advisor to the Secretary of Territorial and Urban Agrarian Development. She was awarded the FONCA Young Creators scholarship in 2003, as well as the Fulbright scholarship in 1995.
From March 2013 to September 2016, she held the position of Urban Development Manager at Infonavit, where she was responsible for the generation and implementation of urban strategies and regeneration programs in housing complexes with deteriorated and abandoned homes throughout the country; the development of measurement tools for housing deterioration; and comparative research on international best practices, as well as research on the impact of programs aimed at improving the capacities of communities in these developments.
In 2004, she and her partner Armando Hashimoto, founded El Cielo, an architecture and urban design office in Mexico City. Their work has been selected to participate in the architecture biennials of Chicago, Seoul, Venice, Beijing, and Pamplona.
Segú is a Loeb Fellow at the Harvard Graduate School of Design and holds a Master’s degree from Columbia University and from the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education, Monterrey Campus. She has been a professor at the Universidad Iberoamericana, the Universidad Anáhuac, and the Universidad Centro.
