What is the COP Resilience Hub?
The 2015 Paris Agreement established a global goal for adaptation, but initiatives and events dedicated to achieving it were widespread and uncoordinated. Recognizing the need for collaborative action, the Climate Resilience Center and four managing partners established the Resilience Hub at COP26.
It is the first physical space dedicated to adaptation and resilience at high-level climate conferences. As a founding and managing partner, the Climate Resilience Center provides strategic guidance to the Resilience Hub’s efforts on topics including climate finance, gender-responsive solutions, and climate tech.
The Resilience Hub also serves as the home of the Race to Resilience, a UN-supported campaign to build the climate resilience of 4 billion people by 2030. The campaign connects non-party stakeholders, private sector actors, and city officials. It has also increased pledged actions by 3 percent, “enhanced the resilience of 3.17 billion people,” and secured $39.44 billion in pledges to fund its partners’ commitments.
Why resilience?
Climate change impacts over 3.6 billion people worldwide. That’s why, alongside mitigation, climate adaptation is urgently needed.
People are already living with the consequences of global warming. Adaptation solutions can reduce the negative impacts of climate shocks and stresses for individuals and systems. The Resilience Hub ensures that these efforts are at the forefront of international convenings.
What does the COP Resilience Hub do?
Connects climate actors for action
At COP28, the Resilience Hub connected over 70 climate organizations and welcomed over 15,000 visitors to its programming. Working across key priority areas, the Resilience Hub connects and inspires stakeholders across business, civil society, academia and government. Working together, they have the opportunity to better collaborate and scale resilience solutions.
Amplifies regional voices and priorities
Each year, the COP Resilience Hub hosts Regional Resilience Hubs. Local climate stakeholders develop the agendas for the Africa, South Asia, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America and the Caribbean hubs. These regional hubs elevate the perspectives of frontline communities and nations in the COP agenda. At these events, they share powerful stories of impact, highlight scalable, investor-ready projects, and outline regional climate priorities. The findings and recommendations from each regional event are shared at the annual COP conference.
Driving climate resilience creatively
The Resilience Hub reimagines how we talk about resilience, connecting leading experts from diverse fields and backgrounds. It amplifies resilience conversations through direct partnerships with recognized artists. In the leadup to each conference, artists create cartoons, songs, and graphics. These designs help people understand different approaches and solutions to climate resilience. The Hub also partners with climate activist and musician AY Young to host interactive sessions that drive people to take action on climate.
Meet the managing partners
The Resilience Hub recognizes the critical need to mobilize climate adaptation and resilience efforts across the world. Over 30 private and public organizations develop the Hub’s programming. Further, the COP Presidency, FCDO, UNFCC, and the High-Level Champions Team provide additional advisory support. Since its launch in 2021, six leading climate resilience partners, as well as former managing partner Resilience Rising, have led the Resilience Hub.
